This year's theme is “United in Diversity”, with the tagline being “Walking on the yellow brick road towards an end to AIDS.” Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the late of Judy Garland and celebrating the many communities and people that encompass the LGBTQ+ community. It is also paying homage to the Stonewall riots as it has been 50 years since Marsha P. Johnson threw the first brick to fight for equal rights.

Life Ball is quite an event with a unique song, fashion show and performance being dedicated to every Ball and its theme. Past performances include Patti LaBelle, Cheyenne Jackson and Adam Lambert. Fashion shows have been put on by Thierry Mugler, Donatella Versace, Roberto Cavalli and Moschino just to name a few. Famous models like Heidi Klum, Naomi Campbell and Alek Wek have walked in these fashion shows. Celebrities like Paris Jackson, Brooke Shields and Katy Perry have attended the event amongst drag legends like Amanda Lepore and Miss Fame.
Founded in 1993 The Life Ball is the biggest charity event in Europe for HIV/AIDS curing and research. Started by Gary Kezler after setting up AIDS LIFE, a non-profit organisation with Torgom Petrosian in 1992. Every year Life Ball takes place in Vienna City Hall in Vienna, Austria and is attended by celebrities as well as members of the public.
Since 2005 the Swarovski Crystal of Hope has been awarded to those raising awareness and celebrating their achievements for HIV/AIDS research and curing. Along with Swarovski, the event is sponsored by Redbull, MAC, Mastercard, Absolut and Durex among many others.
